The Learning Center’s major goal is to create a warm, loving, child centered atmosphere based on the needs and interests of preschool children. Each child is regarded as a unique individual and is encouraged to experiment and learn at his or her own individual rate. We feel a child learns best by doing and playing. Through our curriculum students will study Bible, patriotism, phonics, science, numbers, poetry, music and art. Basic routines such as organized free play, clean-up time, toileting, snack time, outdoor play, and group time are carried out every day to help the child develop a sense of regularity and security. Special seasonal activities are planned to teach awareness and meaning of important holidays. Parents and other interested adults possessing special talents and abilities are encouraged to participate in the program and share their skills.
Your child will participate in a variety of activities such as:
• Learning to enjoy God and His wonderful creation
• Working with paints, play dough, crayons, scissors, blocks, puzzles, and other manipulative materials.
• Enjoying stories, poetry, finger plays, videos and books.
• Learning to take turns, share, plan, work and play with others.
• Learning to respond to music by singing, playing rhythm instruments, and listening to different kinds of music.
• Acquiring good health and cleanliness habits.
Our teachers are carefully selected on the basis of their spiritual background, experience, and suitability to work with young children. The teachers and staff will continually seek to help the child feel secure and valued as they offer him/her many experiences or invitations to grow developmentally at his own pace in all areas of his capabilities.
Guiding the behavior and development of preschool children is an exciting and challenging responsibility which we look forward to sharing with you this year.
Statement of Faith
Palmetto Shores Learning Center acknowledges and respects the different religions and cultures that may be represented in the school. We feel that preschoolers best learn about religion if they experience feelings of love, acceptance and respect of self and others in their everyday life. The most important way preschoolers learn the biblical message is being with adults who radiate God’s love and care. Along with the curriculum, preschoolers will learn about the following simple religious concepts.
• God loves us.
• Jesus is God’s Son. Jesus is a special person. He told people about God’s love and care.
• The Bible is a special book that contains stories about God and Jesus.
• Every person is special and important to God.
• God made families and boys and girls should love and obey their parents.
• The church is people who love Jesus and who love others. At church we learn about God.
We also learn that prayer is talking to God. Each day we start our school day by praying for our families and friends. Children are taught to be grateful and to thank God for His many blessings. Because every person is special and important to God, we teach our students to always be polite and respectful to others. These values and many others can best be reinforced by worshipping together as a family. We do hope you attend a church of your choice and if you do not have church home or if you feel you need a new church home, we invite you to worship with us at Palmetto Shores Church.
